Kizilagac is a coastal town in Manavgat, set among pine trees and known for its large resort hotels. It takes its name from the alder tree (kizilagac) that grows in the area; it is also known for honey production. At the eastern end of the cluster, east of Side, the town is mostly chosen for all-inclusive hotel holidays. The road of about 80 kilometres from Antalya Airport (AYT) to Kizilagac, via Serik and Manavgat, takes around 1 hour 10-15 minutes. Your driver, waiting with your name on a sign, drops you straight at your hotel door at a fixed price, with no other stops.
See Your Web-Only PriceWhat Kind of Place Is Kizilagac?
Kizilagac shouldn't be thought of like central Side. There is no crowded ancient-city street or busy bazaar here; instead there are large resort hotels spread among the pine trees and holiday zones stretching along the shore. About 12 kilometres from central Manavgat and 19 from Side, the town sits at the eastern end of the cluster.
Most guests who come here come for an all-inclusive hotel holiday. Many guests staying in Kizilagac spend their holiday without going far from the hotel; the hotel's beach, pools and aquapark areas are enough to fill the day. Those who wish take a day trip to Side and Manavgat; but the town itself is a place to rest, for families with children and guests staying long.
Pine Scent and Kizilagac Honey
Kizilagac takes its name from the alder tree that grows in the area; the town is surrounded by pines and other trees. Even in the summer heat, the scent of pine drifts through the streets behind the hotel zones. This wooded texture is the first detail that sets the town apart from the citrus-delta shore of its neighbour Kizilot.
The town is also known for its honey; local honey is found in the small shops run by area residents. Farming, livestock and fishing still continue alongside tourism. Watching the sunset over toward Golcuk in the late afternoon is a favourite local habit.
Kizilagac Beach and Holiday Atmosphere
Kizilagac's strength is its shore and its resort texture. The beach is a mix of sand and pebbles; the way the sea deepens quickly makes the town enjoyable for swimming adults — and in this respect, too, it differs from its shallow-sea neighbour Kizilot. Large hotels and their private beaches line the shore.
Morning Shore and Sunset
Early in the morning, seeing families walking along the shore is an ordinary sight. The hotel pool and aquapark areas during the day, and a walk along the shore in the late afternoon, are the natural flow of a day in the town. In summer the shore slowly comes alive from sunrise.
What Is a Day in Kizilagac Like?
For most guests, a day in Kizilagac flows like this: a morning swim or a walk on the beach, time at the hotel pool and aquapark in the afternoon, a walk along the shore in the late afternoon. Families with children usually spend a long time in the hotels' aquapark areas.
Many guests staying in large resorts like Sunrise Resort or Starlight Resort spend the day inside the hotel and walk along the shore in the late afternoon. The Manavgat Market, held twice a week (Monday and Thursday), is a favourite stop too; some hotels run a shuttle to it, and guests drop by for fresh fruit, spices and local produce.
For a livelier or more cultural day, Side and Manavgat are a car ride away; Side trips are usually preferred in the late afternoon. But Kizilagac's own character is an unhurried holiday built on hotel comfort.
Seleukeia (Lyrbe) Ancient City
Near Kizilagac there is a little-known but striking historical spot: the Seleukeia (Lyrbe) Ancient City. Built on a hill among the pine forest in the inland part of Manavgat, reaching this city requires a short forest walk; from the hill a view opens over both the plain and the Mediterranean.
The Seven Sages Mosaic and the Agora
The city's best-known find is the Seven Sages Mosaic, carrying the portraits of seven ancient thinkers (today displayed in the Antalya Archaeology Museum). One of the best-preserved agoras of the Pamphylia region, along with bath and wall ruins, is also here. Its not being crowded carries an extra value for those who like a calm history visit.
Places to Visit from Kizilagac
Side and the Temple of Apollo
The most common trip from Kizilagac is the Side Ancient City; the ancient theatre, the agora and the seafront columns of the Temple of Apollo draw visitors especially at sunset. The streets around Side Harbour are pleasant for an evening stroll; fish restaurants, small shops and seafront cafes gather here. Guests who plan their Side trip for the late afternoon see both the ancient city and the harbour on the same outing.
Nature: Manavgat Waterfall and Koprulu Canyon
The Manavgat Waterfall is a cool spot for a break; for rafting, Koprulu Canyon is the best-known place reached from Kizilagac. Among bay laurel, red pine and heather, the canyon also suits those who like nature walks.
Common Mistakes with Kizilagac Transfers (and Fixes)
Calm as it is, planning the journey to Kizilagac poorly can tire the start of the holiday:
- Mistake: Taking other companies' shared shuttle from the airport. Fix: The shared shuttle stops at many hotels in the cluster one by one; Kizilagac, at the eastern end, is usually dropped off last, up to three hours. We do not run shared shuttles; with your own private transfer you go straight to your hotel.
- Mistake: Assuming the hotel is in Side because 'Side' is in its name. Fix: Some hotels in Kizilagac use the name 'Side'; stating the hotel's real location as Kizilagac when booking ensures the driver comes to the right spot.
- Mistake: Leaving the child seat to chance with a family. Fix: The one child seat is free, extra seats at a fair charge with us; note what you need when booking so it's ready in the car.
