Antalya City Centre is set apart from the rest of the city by its cliff views, its museums and its wide streets. All of these lie outside Kaleici, within the modern city.
The Cliffs and Ataturk Culture Park
In Antalya you can walk tens of metres above sea level in many parts of the city and look out over the Mediterranean from the top of the cliffs. On the western side, between the cliffs and Konyaalti Street, Ataturk Culture Park (AKM) is where locals come to relax, with its walking paths, tea gardens and green spaces. From the park's "Mirador" viewing terraces you see the Mediterranean and the Beydaglari mountains at once; in the late afternoon the light draws photographers here. Early in the day the tea gardens on the cliffs are quiet, with little more than the sound of the sea and the gulls; the crowds build up in the afternoon.
Museums and Streets
The museums are in the city centre too. The Antalya Museum holds one of the richest archaeology collections on the Mediterranean (the museum building is being renewed; the new building is due to open by the end of 2026); its hall of sculptures and the finds from Perge are where visitors spend the most time. The Dogu Garaji Museum is built over an ancient cemetery found during excavations; you walk over the graves on glass platforms, making it the city's most unusual museum. Ataturk Street is pleasant to walk, with the nostalgic tram passing along it, while the elegant buildings and cafes of Isiklar Street get busy through the day and into the evening. Shopping Malls and Markets
Most of Antalya's major shopping centres are in or around the city centre. MarkAntalya, right in the middle of the city, is the most convenient mall in the centre, with its brand stores and cafes. On the western side, towards Lara, TerraCity is one of Antalya's largest malls with 180 stores. Along the airport road stand Mall of Antalya, Deepo Outlet and Agora; these suit outlet and discount shopping, handy for a last shop before a flight. On the Konyaalti side, 5M Migros sits near the aquarium and the funfair. At the Handicrafts Bazaar near AKM you'll find handmade jewellery, ceramics and souvenirs; leather shops and traditional markets are also places visitors often stop.
Aquarium, Funfair and the Duden Waterfall
Families and visitors with children have their own stops in the city centre. On the Konyaalti side, Antalya Aquarium is known for having one of the world's longest tunnel aquariums; the Aktur funfair next to it and the Aqualand water park are favourite stops for children in summer. To the east of the city, the point where the Lower Duden Waterfall pours straight into the sea over the cliffs is watched from a boat or a viewing terrace. In the morning you come across people walking, heading to work and cycling along Konyaalti beach. Shopkeepers open up along the streets, university students settle into the cafes, and locals take the tram to work. Towards evening the cliffs and the seafront walking paths grow crowded with people watching the sunset. Along Konyaalti beach there are those who sit in the evening cool, drink tea and stroll. Isiklar Street and the restaurants around it fill up; along the streets, doner shops, fishmongers and patisseries stand side by side.
